Inside scoop from our experts: Educate staff organizationwide on nursing excellence
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, February 10, 2009
This week, a reader asks how the project director communicates what ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® (MRP) designation is throughout the organization. Read the response from advisor Gina Boring, MSN, RN, NE-BC, MRP project director at Aultman Health in North Canton, OH.
Q: As the project director, how can I communicate what MRP designation is to staff in my organization?
A: The MRP project director takes on many roles. They attend shared governance meetings, track quality improvement and research projects, gather a team to collect evidence and write narratives for the written documentation, and much more.
But more importantly, a project director needs to educate staff members and build excitement for designation.
As the project director, you want to educate staff members with tools such as PowerPoint presentations of the standards, poster presentations for staff, and informational forums on what designation is and what the standards include. Below are a few examples of ways to communicate your journey toward nursing excellence throughout the organization:
- Include updates in facility newsletters as to what MRP status means, and your facility’s journey toward reaching that status
- Create an MRP status cabinet that displays anything that is helping along your journey to designation
