Inside the news: Pediatric patients at a New York hospital wake up with a smile
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, February 3, 2009
Pediatric patients admitted to the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York will soon be greeted with more than just quality care. A welcome card will be waiting for them.
The Gallery Collection, which produces greeting cards for business and personal use, donated more than 3,000 all-occasion cards to Hospital for Special Surgery—a 2007 ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® redesignation recipient. The hospital will give every pediatric inpatient a welcome card upon admission and a congratulations card upon discharge. Both cards will be signed by the patient’s physicians and nurses.
The donation is part of The Gallery Collection’s “Show Me a Smile” program, which was created for children who are living with—and being treated for—a severe illness. According to Roger Widmann, MD, chief of pediatric orthopedic surgery, the donation supports the hospital’s mission of restoring mobility to pediatric inpatients.
