Inside the Program: Understand Component I: Transformational leadership
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, January 13, 2009
The 14 Forces of Magnetism are now integrated under one of the new 5 Model Components in the 2008 ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® Application Manual. Component I: Transformational leadership encompasses two Forces:
- Force 1: Quality of nursing leadership
- Force 3: Management style
Transformational leaders transform work environments. The CNO, as a transformational leader, should have a strong vision and philosophy of nursing practice and be able to communicate and lead others to create and evolve that vision. The CNO must serve at the executive level and must be seen as a strong leader and advocate for nursing and patient care. And leaders, who create and support an autonomous, collaborative environment for nursing, bring a higher level of job satisfaction to nurses.
