Inside the Forces: Hire an external consultant for the journey
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, December 23, 2008
As healthcare organizations prepare to conduct the gap analysis in pursuit of ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® designation, many find it valuable to have an external consultant assist with the gap analysis and timeline to complete projects. Another way to use a consultant is to review the final documents for adherence to the 5 Model Components/14 Forces of Magnetism, consistency in style, and logical flow. Once a site visit has been scheduled, the consultant can also provide direction by performing a mock site visit to familiarize staff with what may be asked of them in the actual site visit. The consultant needs to be familiar with the 5 Model Components and the Forces of Magnetism to verify that the exemplars submitted reflect the best nursing practices of the organization and meet the application manual’s criteria.
