Inside the news: Colorado hospital awarded for top quality
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, December 9, 2008
Poudre Valley Health System (PVHS) in Fort Collins, CO, is the only healthcare organization to receive the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award for 2008.
The Baldrige Award, given annually since 1987 by the U.S. Commerce Department’s National Institute of Standards and Technology, recognizes excellence in organizational performance. PVHS—a 2004 ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® redesignation recipient—submitted a 50-page document that answered more than 250 questions related to the hospital’s ongoing focus for improving quality in many areas (e.g., leadership, clinical, customer service, and staff, physician, and volunteer satisfaction). The hospital was one of only six healthcare organizations to receive a four-day site visit.
PVHS staff members will be presented the Baldrige National Quality Award from President–elect Barack Obama during a 2009 ceremony in Washington, D.C.
