The interest and the passion for a career in nursing can start at an early age—Medcenter One College of Nursing in Bismarck, ND, has set out to sustain it.

The college held its first Nurse Camp last month—a program designed to introduce junior high students to career options within the nursing field. During the Nurse Camp, which took place at the college, junior and senior nursing students coached participants through six different skill stations. The junior high students learned various skills, such as how to clean and dress wounds and how to change diapers.

Twenty-one junior high students participated in the college's first camp. Faculty and students at the college hope the program will hold participating students' interest in the nursing profession and in turn help alleviate the nursing shortage.
