Inside best practice: Collaborate with the community to promote nursing services
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, November 25, 2008
Nurses engaged in shared governance often partner with members of their communities in activities that reflect positively on the organization and nursing service. They share in the decision-making about which activities to support and to provide. Community collaborations include those with staff nurses participating in outreach programs, such as:
- Offering a CPR day for community members each year
- Affiliating with local universities and colleges for nurses to continue their academic educations on hospital grounds
- Allocating and using appropriate resources to support various projects (e.g., a Junior Internship Program that brings high school students into the organization during the summer and teaches them how to communicate and interact with patients)
