Inside the Forces: Hold nurses accountable for improving the image of nursing
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, November 18, 2008
As you pursue ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® designation or redesignation, you must consistently meet expectations for Force of Magnetism 12: Image of nursing, which falls under Component II: Structural empowerment. To improve the image of nursing in your organization, hold staff nurses accountable for:
- Participating in shared governance councils
- Belonging to and supporting at least one professional nursing organization
- Maintaining a current knowledge base of their specialty through continuing education
- Documenting appropriately and according to nursing standards of practice
- Adhering to organizational and other practice standards
- Introducing themselves to a patient by their first name and title (e.g., “My name is Sally Brown, and I am your nurse.”)
