Inside HCPro's MRP workshop: Close the gaps to achieve nursing excellence
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, November 4, 2008
On October 2-3, attendees at HCPro’s Workshop on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® in New Orleans received best practices on how to prepare for the journey toward designation. During the next several weeks, we’ll feature some of the highlights here in the e-newsletter.
This week, we’ll look at assessing your readiness to pursue designation.
Before you can meet the program’s expectations and take the journey toward nursing excellence, you have to close the four main gaps:
- Shared governance: Needs to be embedded in the culture and staff nurses need to believe they have a voice
- Evidence-based practice: Needs to be woven throughout all departments of nursing.
- Image of nursing: Nurses should have high visibility in the hospital, community, and region/state
- Models of care: Nurses need to be able to speak to the organization’s professional model of care and how that reflects their unit’s specific care-delivery model.
