Q: How can I educate nursing and nonnursing staff on peer review?
A: A great way to educate staff regarding the peer review process is through a formal educational session. Involve all nursing departments and nonnurses, such as quality managers who will be referring cases to the peer review committee, by presenting a PowerPoint slide show of the peer review process. Also, add a peer review in-service to new nurse orientation to set the expectation for new hires.
The following are a few other ways to inform nursing and nonnursing departments about the peer review process:
- Unit-specific newsletters
- Hospital newsletter
- Intranet site
- Bulletin boards
- Flyers and brochures
