Inside the Forces: Engage nurses in the budget process
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, September 9, 2008
Under Force of Magnetism 1: Quality of nursing leadership, the CNO is expected to recognize the value of engaging all nurses in the budget process. Involving direct-care nurses in the budget process will improve patient safety, the environment, and nurse satisfaction.
To encourage this, survey staff nurses at the unit level prior to the budget process about equipment needs, staffing priorities, and other concerns. Ask them to prioritize and justify request.
Utilize staff unit meeting minutes to document requests and justifications.
