Inside the news: Florida hospital looks outside its walls to prepare for site visit
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, September 2, 2008
After five years on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® journey, Winter Haven (FL) Hospital prepares for its early September site visit. And it’s looking to the community and its staff for help.
Patients and family members are encouraged to share their experiences at Winter Haven, which the hospital will use to show its reputation in the community. Meanwhile, the hospital is allowing nursing and nonnursing staff the ability to view the written documentation 24 hours a day and seven days a week in a coffee lounge and in the medical library.
During its journey toward designation, Winter Haven implemented programs, people, and rewards to reach its goal of achieving the nursing excellence award. The hospitals accomplishments include:
- A four-level clinical ladder program to reward and recognize nurses
- A $1.50 pay increase to nurses who become certified in their specialty
- A best practices manager to oversee data collection
