Inside the Forces: Show me the evidence

HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, August 25, 2008

If there are no quantifiable outcomes related to particular evidence for one of the 14 Forces of Magnetism, do not include the evidence in your written documentation.

For example, you may have what you believe to be an innovative multifaceted program to prevent or reduce the incidence of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP). However, if you cannot provide evidence of sustained prevention and control of VAP, the example should not be included in the documentation. Most of the exemplars that your organization chooses to feature in the documentation should describe how your nursing organization was able to recognize problems, establish plans to address the problems, apply the plans, measure changes attributed to the plans, and revise those plans as necessary.
