Nurses in Wales are seeing red—and it's making patients safer.

At Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust, nurses who are delivering medications to patients now wear a red tabard, or short coat, to eliminate distractions. The tabard has increased concentration among staff and has served as a warning to other staff and patients to withhold interruptions. It also has reduced the time it takes to complete the medication rounds.

The initiative is the first of its kind in Wales. Many U.S. facilities are looking at similar safety measures, as medication errors continue to affect patients across the globe.
