Inside the news: Chicago hospital goes green with a new remedy
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, August 12, 2008
Medical students and staff at Rush Medical Center in Chicago—an ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® redesignation recipient in 2006—are going green by creating a new medical supply recycling program: Rush Remedy.
Rush Remedy collects unused medical supplies and equipment for overseas hospitals and clinics that cannot afford such materials. Since January 2008, Rush Remedy has collected and donated 12,000 pounds of unused medical supplies including surgical gloves and packs, gauze, bandages, and catheters.
Members collect the unused medical materials each month and ship them in 40-foot containers to the hospitals and clinics. Additional unused materials are sent along with Rush physicians and residents as they pursue international medical missionary trips.
