Q: What are the key components of a competency checklist, and why should these checklists be used?
A: Competency checklists are one way of validating competence. Checklists must clearly identify expectations and should be completed by staff members who know how to use them. The format for checklists may vary, but most of them contain similar information. Characteristics of competency checklists are identified below.
They should:

Be learner-oriented

Focus on behaviors
-
Be measurable
-
Contain criteria validated by experts

Be specific enough to avoid ambiguity
