Inside the news: A Connecticut family runs to say thanks
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, June 17, 2008
Alex and Liz Tuff wanted to pay a special thanks to pediatric nurses at Stamford (CT) Hospital for taking care of their sick 11-month-old daughter. They decided to go for a jog.
The Tuffs ran their first half marathon in April in Washington Depot, CT, and, in the process, raised $12,400 for Stamford Hospital—an ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® recipient in 2005.
The Tuffs completed the 2nd Annual Nutmeg State Half-Marathon and collected 80 donations from family and friends. The Tuffs’ donation allowed the hospital to launch the Pediatric Unit Nursing Education Fund and will provide pediatric nurses the opportunity to attend seminars, achieve certification, and complete emergency training courses.
State-of-the-art care and evidence-based medicine will be the focus of much of the training.
