Q: What roles can the professional development council perform?

A: Medical Center of Central Georgia’s professional development council responsibilities are stated in our bylaws, and the following are a few roles the council performs:

  • Assesses, develops, implements, and evaluates innovative professional development strategies
  • Addresses and supports recruitment and retention recommendations from organizationwide councils and unit councils
  • Supports professional recognition activities such as the organizationwide professional and clinical excellence award ceremony
  • Develops, implements, evaluates, and supports the professional nursing ladder
  • Creates innovative ways to reward and recognize staff
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates the nursing peer review process, assuring all nurses involved revise/review professional growth and job descriptions 
  • Assists in developing a sense of community among patient-care employees
  • Encourages and promotes education achievement and advancement
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates strategies to enhance certification, education, and professional growth activities
