A Texas organization has adopted a nurse residency program to increase retention and has seen a big reduction in staff turnover rates, according to the Austin Business Journal.

The Seton Family of Hospitals-a nonprofit organization that runs 16 clinics and hospitals in Central Texas-recently graduated 107 nurses from its 18-week Versant RN Residency Program. This program was designed by nurses and is a clinical, professional, and personal support system. The move toward nurse residency programs is a new one, as new graduate nurses normally receive a six-to-eight-week orientation.

After 3 months of the program, the program has reduced nurse turnover at Seton from 33% to 7%. The enrollment for the session beginning June 23 is at 106 nurses.
