The Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing at NYU College of Nursing is making strides to improve patient care in older adults.
More than 200 hospitals nationally have adopted the NICHE program (Nurses Improving Care for Health System Adults), which was created to help hospitals make systemic changes in care methods for older adults.
The program provides staff with skills and knowledge regarding treatment decisions for elderly patients, and facilities involved with the program have benefited from boosted patient satisfaction, cuts in the length of stay and readmission rates, and cost reductions in hospital care.
NICHE is conducting a three-part conference entitled Patient Safety: Evidence-Based Solutions for Quality Geriatric Care, which aims to strengthen the commitment of both new and experienced NICHE sites. Attendees will take part in a two-day leadership conference providing tools to acclimate organizations to the NICHE program, best clinical practices that focus on evidence-based nursing, and a user conference that shares practical methods of improving the implementation of NICHE.
The conference will be held February 23-26, 2009 at Disney's Contemporary Resort in Florida. Anyone interested in more information about NICHE should visit www.NICHEprogram.org.
