To help diversify the workforce and ease the nursing shortage, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation have kicked off a $15 million scholarship program.

Through the program, called "New Careers in Nursing," about 75 nursing schools will be eligible to grant between five and 30 scholarships a year over three years. To qualify, schools must show that they will use the funding to increase enrollment while focusing on bringing in students from underserved populations.

Officials expect the program to both increase and diversify the country's number of nurses while providing vital financial support to nursing students.
