Introducing the preceptee to the team

HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, April 22, 2008

A preceptorship program is a safe place for preceptees to learn about their new environment of care and understand their roles in the new organization. But besides new responsibilities with their position, they have new coworkers. Here are four positive ways for preceptors to facilitate the introductions among preceptees and new team members:

  1. Post a picture and brief biography of the preceptee on the nursing unit welcome board.
  2. Post a welcome sign on the unit.
  3. Give the preceptee a picture of and brief introduction to his or her new team.
  4. Hold a welcome party for the staff to begin building team connectivity immediately.
