Increasing research council attendance

HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, April 8, 2008

This week, a reader asks how to increase nursing research council attendance. Read the response from our advisor Gina Boring, MSN, RN, director for the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® at Aultman Health Foundation in Canton, OH.

Q: How can we increase nursing research council attendance?

A: Having low attendance at nursing research council meetings is a problem many of us deal with because it can be difficult for staff nurses to find time away from their hectic bedside care. The following are two ideas to consider when looking to increase research council attendance:

  1. Have managers take staff nurses' assignments for the few hours they are away from the unit at the council meeting.
  2. Hold a membership drive once a year and then have members sign attendance and participation commitments.
