To engage patients in their care, an Illinois facility has equipped patient rooms with Internet systems that provide hospital information and links to additional resources, according to The New York Times.

Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago installed Internet connections near 200 patient beds. Patients can navigate the Web pages uses a remote control keyboard and mouse. The system's welcome page allows patients to select from options such as ordering a meal or adjusting the room temperature. Additionally, the page directs patients to healthcare videos and other medical education materials.

A growing number of hospitals are beginning to invest in this technology as they hope to increase satisfaction among patients and visitors.
