Stunned nursing professor finds answers on eBay

Stressed Out Nurses Weekly, March 24, 2008

A nursing faculty member from Indiana State University (ISU) was recently searching for some textbooks on eBay. She found what she needed-and something that shocked her.

Carolyn Burns, an assistant professor of nursing at ISU, found test questions and answers that she would likely use on an exam for sale. She also found the teacher's edition of certain textbooks. She reported the claim to eBay, which responded that their universe of products is too large to scrutinize every one individually. According to The Terre Haute (IN) Tribune Star, Burns was encouraged by the online company to continue to report any inappropriate materials she found.

Burns will be publishing an article on her findings and has encouraged faculty to be more creative in creating tests. Faculty also spoke to students about academic integrity.
