Senior nursing students at a Texas university recently undertook a different kind of training, which taught leadership skills through methods such as a grueling obstacle course, as part of the school's annual Nursing Leadership Day.

The day took place in Nacogdoches, TX and was a collaboration of Stephen F. Austin State University's Army ROTC program and the university's School of Nursing. The major event was an obstacle course, which required students to act as a team by completing leadership exercises (such as transporting an "injured soldier" through the course and dressing his "wounds"). The exercises demonstrated students' abilities to focus on their patients.

All of the participating students were enrolled in the school's leadership management class. The Nursing Leadership Day was designed to enable students to demonstrate the skills they are learning in class.
