California hospital focuses on patient satisfaction through technology

HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, March 4, 2008

Sharp Grossmont Hospital in San Diego, CA--a recipient of the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® award and the Malcolm Bridge National Quality Award--is focusing on patient satisfaction by expanding the number of patients who have access to a device that connects them to various hospital services with the touch of a button. Through this "Skylight ACCESS Interactive Patient System," patients are able to receive patient rights and safety guidelines, educational resources, and entertainment on the television using a wireless keyboard. With ACCESS, Sharp Grossmont patients can answer questions regarding their overall stay at the hospital before being discharged. Once patients submit their answers, an alert is sent to nursing staff if there is a concern that needs to be addressed immediately.

Additionally, ACCESS has a feature that allows patients to send requests directly to a department to meet specific needs. For example, a patient can send a service alert to foods services if they have a question regarding meals or nutrition.
