To help curb the nursing shortage, schools and hospitals in Oklahoma City, OK are trying to attract new hires with extensive recruitment and retention efforts.

St. Anthony Hospital, for example, is providing new graduate nurses with financial assistance of up to $5,200 per year to help cover student loans. St. Anthony has also partnered with Oklahoma State University to kick off an LPN-to-RN program in which St. Anthony selects a group of the school's LPN students and pays for them to study at OSU and become an RN.

Other state schools and hospitals are also enhancing their recruitment strategies. The University of Oklahoma's College of Nursing is hosting several career days each year to help connect new graduates with job opportunities, and Integris Baptist Medical Center offers a $1,000 bonus to nurses who successfully recruit a new hire.
