Bring food and giveaways to champions
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, February 19, 2008
To help make its journey toward ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® (MRP) designation a success, Lakewood Hospital in Lakewood, OH, selected MRP champions by having interested staff--along with those recommended by their managers--fill out an application. After the champions were selected, Christine Staviscak, RN, BSN, MRP coordinator, held a breakfast kick-off where MRP champion T-shirts, pens, and chocolates were handed out.
"We currently meet monthly during lunchtime, and I always feed them," says Staviscak. "I also have little giveaways that are related to holidays or events going on in our area. For example, when our city's professional baseball team went to the playoffs I raffled off a team T-shirt and gave them all an official mascot candy bar."
With its dynamic group of individuals, "it is always interesting to hear the champion's feedback and listen to their comments regarding examples of MRP activities on their units," says Staviscak.
