Staff-development specialists teach learners who represent a variety of cultures, and cultural diversity is a valued component of our society. It is important that educators consider what effects culture has on learning. Cultural diversity should be included as part of your competency training. Since staff need to demonstrate competency on an ongoing basis, this will allow you to add aspects of additional cultures as needed. How can staff demonstrate competency? Incorporate competency assessment techniques that have proved valid within your organization. Competency can also be demonstrated through the use of:

  • Written tests
  • Role-play
  • On-the-job behaviors
