Cell phones can breach hospital privacy

Cameras on cell phones can violate a facility's confidentiality policy, but a Philadelphia healthcare network and other institutions are beginning to address this growing threat to patient privacy.
Albert Einstein Healthcare Network in Philadelphia, PA, has assembled a task force to discuss cell phone usage in the healthcare environment. The force is attempting to answer questions such as whether or not employees should be allowed to use cell phones and if patients should be asked for authorization whenever they have their picture taken. Network officials say that nurses need to become aware of the specific protocols in their institutions and need to understand the potential risks to patients that camera phones can present.
