Involve direct-care nurses in the care-delivery model

HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, January 29, 2008

For Force 5: Professional models of care, the care-delivery model should meet the needs of  an organization's patient population, provide continuity of care, and take into consideration the organization's nurse staffing model. The direct-care nurse must have a role in the development of the care-delivery model and is expected to play a key role in the implementation and evaluation of the model on each nursing unit. An example of direct-care nurse involvement would be the development and implementation of family visitations in a postanesthesia care unit and open visitation in a critical care unit, to provide a more family-centered care environment.
