Last week, Gov. Christine Gregoire of Washington proposed a $3 million plan to alleviate the state's nursing shortage by assisting healthcare workers in their venture to obtain on-the-job nurse training. According to The Seattle Times, the proposal would expand pilot projects currently under way at Seattle's Swedish Medical Center; these include a nurse-training program created in partnership with Shoreline Community College as well as courses on medical terminology, computer literacy, and English as a second language.
