This week, a reader asks who should be on the steering committee and how they can help the organization's ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® (MRP) project director. Q: Who should be on the steering committee and how can they help the MRP project director?

A: To enhance interdisciplinary support, participation, and involvement in designation efforts, create an MRP steering committee that includes staff nurses, advance practice nurses, medical staff members, committee chairs, and the CNO. The steering committee may help the MPR project director with the following tasks:

  • Assist CNO in evaluating organizational readiness for designation
  • Lead application process, including documentation and site visit
  • Conduct brainstorming sessions for members of all the MRP committees to share knowledge and ideas
  • Review and edit documentation
  • Communicate with organizational leadership and medical staff
  • Evaluate progress according to organizational timeline
