According to an article in Nursing Education Perspectives, online nursing doctoral programs may provide a useful solution to the growing nationwide nursing faculty shortage. A convenient educational option for master's-prepared faculty, online doctoral programs allow faculty members the option of remaining in their respective teaching positions while furthering their education.
Researchers from the University of Northern Colorado-Greeley evaluated the quality and efficacy of the school's online nursing doctoral program by gathering feedback from first-year participants in the program. Students reported the program as rigorous and academically challenging and also commended the collaborative environment among students and nursing educators provided by online chat rooms and email.
