To improve patient care and provide training to new nurses, a Kansas-based hospital is kicking off a nurse residency program, according to The Hays Daily News.

The 20-week program at Hays Medical Center in Hays, KS, is scheduled to begin in early February. The training will focus on clinical experience, mentorship, and feedback; it will also provide students with on-the-job training as well as classroom-style education. Additionally, nurses will receive training from professionals in several departments, such as radiology, pharmacy, and cardiac care.

The program's curriculum will be provided by Versant, an evidence-based RN residency program based in Los Angeles, CA. The hospital hopes the residency program will increase nurse recruitment and help new graduates transition easily from the academic to the clinical environment.
