Wyoming facility to wait another year for more information

HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, November 27, 2007

This past July, Wyoming Medical Center (WMC) in Casper submitted its written documentation as part of its application for ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® designation. But Vickie Diamond, senior vice president for patient services, says that the ANCC replied that the organization needs more information about the results of patient care before a decision can be made on its status. So WMC is waiting another year to collect additional data on patient care results and will submit the required information to the ANCC in February 2009. While it gathers more data on patient care, WMC is working on a new initiative that will benefits its employees: it is about to acquire the Casper Child Development Center next door to the facility and will use it as a child care program for WMC employees. The facility's ability to provide child care helps attract and keep employees, and it's one of WMC's best retention strategies, says Diamond.
