High school students at a California school gained first-hand knowledge about careers in healthcare when they were paired with hospital mentors and shadowed the mentors in their jobs.

Juniors in the Health Careers Academy at Canyon Springs High School in Moreno Valley, CA, recently took part in the academy's Mentor Kickoff. After being paired with mentors from the Riverside County Regional Medical Center in Moreno Valley, the students visited hospitals and clinics; along with lab coats and name tags, they received training on subjects such as HIPAA, CPR, and first aid.

The goal of the event was to provide students with the opportunity to explore careers in healthcare and to ask questions of their mentors, whether they were curious about work-related duties, educational needs, or even salaries.
