Premier survey shows hospitals see HAIs as serious threat

Hospitalist Leadership Connection, October 31, 2007

Tracking healthcare associated infections throughout the hospital is the most challenging infection control issue faced by hospitals, according to 34% of nearly 800 hospital clinicians surveyed by Premier, Inc. Forty-seven percent of survey respondents cited a lack of staff as the main roadblock to effective infection prevention.

The survey also included a question about the preventable conditions for which CMS will no longer reimburse in 2008. Nearly half of all respondents (48%) said catheter-associated urinary tract infections present the greatest challenge to their facilities.
