Retention starts in the job interview

You might be surprise to learn that the retention process actually begins during a hospitalist candidate's first interview. Most Physicians who leave their organization do so in the first five years, and often the decision to leave occurs within the first three to five months of employment.

Successful recruiters know that employee retention begins long before a candidate is hire. A particular strength of hospitalist program that are successful in keeping great hospitalist on staff is their adeptness at monitoring the warning signs a candidate's comments and questions portray during the interview process. If all of a candidate's questions are about compensation and vacation, it should be viewed as a red flag.
