IN hospital collaboration improves patient safety

Hospitalist Leadership Connection, August 22, 2007

The six hospitals of the Indianapolis Coalition for Patient Safety have seen improvements in key patient safety areas after working together to solve the problems, according to an Indianapolis Star article.

The collaboration has reduced the rate of ventilator-associated infections and respiratory and cardiac failure through the use of rapid response teams. Other measures included using a standard procedure for marking surgical sites. Previously, the hospitals' procedures varied from one organization to the next, which could lead to confusion among patients and staff who visit or serve at more than one hospital.
