PA acts on legislation targeting hospital infections

The Pennsylvania House and Senate acted on separate legislation to reduce the number of potentially fatal hospital-acquired infections, according to a June 27 article in The
The Senate unanimously passed a bill (SB 968) requiring all healthcare facilities to implement infection-control plans, the article states. The bill also provides financial incentives for facilities that reduce the incidence of hospital-acquired infections.
The House gave second consideration to a bill (HB 1552) that would require infection reporting, but that also would require hospitals to meet certain benchmarks showing a reduction in infection rates, according to the article. Financial incentives would be available to hospitals that meet benchmarks; those that did not would get reduced state payments and could be fined and possibly suffer license penalties.
