2007-2008 SHM president takes office

Russell Holman, MD, has taken office as the president of the Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM) for the 2007-2008 term, according to June 25 press release from SHM. Holman is the chief operating officer for Nashville-based Cogent Healthcare.
Holman is a long-time member of SHM and has served on numerous committees. He is also the current director of the SHM Leadership Academies, which are intensive courses on various topics designed for hospitalist leaders. According to SHM, Holman's contributions to hospital medicine and to the society have helped to establish nationally recognized standards in the areas of hospital quality improvement, leadership development, communications systems, surgical co-management, and others.
Larry Wellikson, MD, CEO of SHM, is quoted in the press release as saying, "[Holman's] commitment to the advancement of hospital medicine makes him a dynamic choice at an explosive time in the history of our specialty."
