SHM marks National Stroke Awareness Month

Hospitalist Leadership Connection, May 16, 2007

Hospitalists are becoming the primary and often sole providers of hospital care for stroke patients, according to a May 9 press release from Philadelphia-based Society of Hospital Medicine. The press release also notes that May is National Stroke Awareness Month.

According to the National Stroke Association, stroke is the third leading cause of death and the most common cause of adult disability in the United States. To mark National Stroke Awareness Month, SHM invites practitioners to visit its stroke quality-improvement resource room to:

·          earn CME credits and learn more about stroke care

·          read new clinical reports on stroke

·          view protocols submitted for acute cerebrovascular syndromes

·          read and adopt practical teaching tips

·          pose stroke questions to a multidisciplinary panel of experts

To access SHM's stroke resource room, go to www.hospitalmedicine.org; click on "Resource Center," and "Quality Improvement Resource Rooms."
