Ask the Expert: Should the peer review committee play a role in proctoring?

<p>Because much of proctoring is similar to peer review, many medical staffs consider asking the peer review committee to oversee the proctoring process. Although this model is possible, it is not advisable. Generally, involving the peer review committee adds a greater burden to the physicians who serve on it and might distract them from their primary duty, which is to provide ongoing physician performance evaluation. From a practical standpoint, proctoring is best left in the hands of the credentials committee.</p>
