The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in January 2006 released Faith-Based and Community Organizations Pandemic Influenza Checklist. This tool provides guidance for religious organizations, faith-based social service agencies, and community organizations (e.g., religiously affiliated clinics or hospitals) to plan for the possible effect of a pandemic on their organization and mission.
The checklist identifies the following six steps these organizations can take to prepare for a pandemic and other emergencies:
- Project the impact of a pandemic on your organization and its mission
- Communicate with and educate your staff and your community
- Plan for the impact of a pandemic on your staff and your community
- Establish policies to follow during a pandemic
- Allocate resources to protect your staff and your community during a pandemic
- Coordinate planning efforts with external organizations
The checklist includes implementation specifications for each step (e.g., assign key staff the responsibility to develop, maintain, and act upon an influenza pandemic preparation and response plan). Click here to view the checklist.
