Duke University Health System in Durham, NC, will establish e-prescribing tools and electronic health records (EHRs) in its roughly 80 health clinics and physician practices, according to Duke University Hospital.
Eventually, more than 1,500 doctors will use the tools to create an EHR system that includes a wide range of medical specialists. Duke will use McKesson products for the project, which will begin with e-prescribing and later add more EHR functions (e.g., viewing results online). The hospital system aims for a rapid rollout of the e-prescribing system, according to the report. Duke University implemented McKesson's computerized physician order entry system last year.
