On January 12, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) corrected a radiation officer training requirement that had previously omitted qualification information.

The NRC mandates that hospitals using radioactive materials designate a radiation safety officer. In its amendment, the agency adds that radiation safety officer candidates must have written attestations of their qualifications signed by a preceptor. A preceptor is a person who provides and verifies training.

The correction falls under paragraph (d) of section 35.50 of the NRC's regulations on the medical use of byproduct material.
