Study shows healthcare 10 years behind in EHR adoption

The EHR products currently available on the market don't have what it takes to meet President Bush's mission of establishing electronic health records (EHRs) nationwide by 2014, according to a Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association research paper.

The study estimated future EHR adoption trends and timelines by using adoption data from six physician practices and applying theory to predict three future adoption scenarios: optimistic, best estimate, and conservative.

So when will the country be electronic? Not until 2024, according to the Journal.
