In an intermediate step to full electronic health record (EHR) migration, North Carolina providers leery of transitioning to a full-blown EHR system can participate in ProviderLink, a pilot program to enable record-sharing among 30 local physician practices.
The Moore Regional Hospital Foundation, including FirstHealth of the Carolinas, the Mid-Carolina Physician Organization, and ProviderLink, will fund the project with a $78,000 grant.
Providers with access to both a computer and fax machine can participate in the pilot program and can continue to retain paper records if they choose, The Pilot of North Carolina reports. ProviderLink will enable medical-record sharing but will not establish a database to store all the records. Providers can share information through fax or e-mail. Click here to read more.
